Deiksis is a journal that aims to be a peer-reviewed platform and an authoritative source of information. We publish scientific works from national and international lecturers, researchers, students, and practitioners to present their new ideas, concepts, and theories in Indonesian language and literature education focused on Language Learning and Indonesian Literature, Class Action Research (CAR) of the teaching of Language and Indonesian Literature, Indonesian Linguistics and Literature, Linguistic and Literary analysis as well as related topics. All articles are peer-reviewed by at least two peer-reviewers. Deiksis is managed to be issued twice in every volume. The scope of Deiksis is Indonesian Language and Literature Learning Model, Assessment and Evaluation of Teaching Indonesian Language and Literature, discourse analysis, pragmatics, anthropolinguistics, language and culture, dialectology, language documentation, cognitive linguistics, language education, translation, language planning, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and other scientific fields related to language studies.

Abstract

There are many aspects connected with vocabulary learning so that English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners have to know and understand vocabulary learning strategies to improve their vocabulary. A vocabulary strategy is a special instructional tool and way of going about directly or explicitly as well as independent word learning skills required to learn words independently. Dealing with the reasons, the main purpose of the present research is to investigate the use of vocabulary learning strategies employed by EFL undergraduate students in the third semester, academic year 2014/2015, majoring English Education at Indraprasta PGRI University. According to Schmitt’s classification, vocabulary learning strategies for this research are classified as determination, social, memory, cognitive, and metacognitive strategies. The research data were collected by using Schmitt’s Vocabulary Learning Strategies (VLSQ). There were 137 undergraduate students from semester III of English Education Program were involved in this research. The results of descriptive statistics showed that they were as medium strategy users with the mean score of 3.26 and standard deviation of 0.93 for overallstrategy use. Furthermore, the most frequently strategies used were metacognitive strategies while the least frequently strategies used were cognitive strategies.Keywords: Vocabulary Learning Strategies, EFL Undergraduate Students

Abstract

This research is an annotated translation. The object of the research is an English book Simple Ways To Make Your Family Happy. The purposes of this study are: (1) to attain factual information concerning the problems faced by the researcher in translating the source text, and (2) to give plausible solution to the difficulties. The researcher uses the introspective and retrospective methods in conducting this annotated translation research. The result of the study covered two main points. First, the finding revealed that from the twenty five most difficult problems, five were in the form of words, eight were phrases, five were idioms, three were clauses, and four were sentences. Theseannotations of hers indicated that during the course of her translation, she had difficulties with them. Second, those difficulties were solved by referring to the relevant theories of translation and the theories of English and Indonesian languages.Keywords: Annotated, Translation, your, family, happy.

Abstract

Penelitian senyapan dan kilir lidah ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk senyapan dan kilir lidah yang sering terjadi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan kajian psikolinguistik, yaitu bahasa dan pikiran atau bahasa kaitannya dengan proses-proses mental yang dilalui manusia dalam membentuk suatu ujaran. Terjadinya peristiwa ini sering tidak disadari. Metode pengumpulan dilakukan menggunakan metode simak dan metode cakap karena berupa pengamatan atau observasi agar pemerolehan data bisa mencukupi. Metode analisis data dilakukan dengan cara mentranskripsikan data yang telah diperoleh atau dicatat ke dalam kartu data secara ortografis, sedangkan hasil analisis data disajikan dalam bentuk uraian dengan cara mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk senyapan dan kilir lidah serta penyebab terjadinya senyapan dan kilir lidah dalam kehidupan sosial. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ditemukannya dua macam senyapan, yaitu senyapan karena pernapasan dan senyapan karena penutur mengalami keragu-raguan. Terjadinya senyapan pada seseorang bisa disebabkan sikap grogi, tidak dan belum siap, takut melakukan kesalahan, dan terlalu berhati-hati dalam berbicara. Untuk penyebab seseorang melakukan kilir lidah juga berbeda-beda. Kilir lidah bisa terjadi pada karena penutur berbicara tergesa-gesa, humor, tidak sengaja, dan tidak konsentrasi. Unit-unit dalam kilir lidah, yaitu terjadinya kekeliruan pada segmen fonetik, kekeliruan suku kata, dan kekeliruan kata.Kata Kunci: senyapan, kilir lidah, produksi ujaran, psikolinguistik

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah memetakan dan mendeskripsikan konsep bahasa Syahrur dalam kajian teks Al-Qur’an. Tampak ketika memunculkan diakronik dan sinkronik, intertekstualitas, analisa paradigmatisdan sintagmatis, ini terlihat pada karya monumentalnya yang pertama al-Kitab wal al-Qur’an ; Qira’ah Muashirah. Syahrur Disebut ulama yang kontroversial yang hendak menunjukkan kepada publik bahwa pengkajian text Al-Qur’an dengan pendekatan ini cukup potensial untuk mendinamisasikan kata dan kalimat dalam al-Qur`an dan akan melahirkan interpretasi keislaman yang progresif, liberatif, dan humanis. Model penelitian ini adalah sepenuhnya studi kepustakaan, bersifat deskriptif analitis, mengingat penelitian ini adalah upaya menggali model pendekatan bahasa Syahrur. Abstract

The aim of the research is to obtain empirical data about the effects of sentence structure mastery and critical thinking on student’s reading comprehension. The research was conducted at grade XI from three Private Senior High Schools at South Jakarta. Research method is survey. The sample was taken randomly. There are three kinds of data: data of sentence structure mastery, data of critical thinking, and data of reading compehension. The instrument tests were firstly tried out to determine the validity and reliability. For sentence structuremastery, critical thinking, and reading comprehension’s tests, validity is calculated by Point-Biserial technique and reliability is measured by Split-Half method (Spearman Brown). Research finding shows three point: first, there are significant effects of sentence structure mastery and critical thinking on student’s reading comprehension. Second, there is significant effect of sentence structure mastery on reading comprehension. Third, there is significant effect of critical thinking on student’s reading comprehension.Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Structure Mastery, Critical Thinking

Abstract

The pusposes of the research was to investigate the students’ perception on the implementation of video viewing to teach target language culture for management students at STIE “Dr. Moechtar Talib” in East Jakarta. The students were in the first year (semester one) during a period of two months in which this study was conducted.The researchers used survey method in this study. Data collection were conducted by taking the test and distributing questionnaires. The data were processed and analyzed by using statistic descriptive, normality test, linearity test, Homogenity test, and hypotheses test. Statistic test uses t test and F test. The research was conducted on 15 November 2014 until 5 February 2015. The research shows that there is not an effect of students perception on the imlementation of video viewing to teach target language culture towards students’ target language competence with the regression analisis: = 88,007 - 0,230 X. Whenever there is a rise in the value of students perception on the imlementation of video viewing to teach target language culture, there will be a decrease in students’ target language competence for 0.230.Keywords: video viewing, target language culture

Abstract

Dalam gambaran media atau iklan, perempuan menempati posisi sentral dalam iklan berbagai produk. Sebagian besar produsen menggunakan perempuan sebagai model iklannya karena memiliki daya tarik tersendiri. Jadi, pencitraan perempuan pun menjadi beragam. Pengaruh dari media inilah yang dapat diyakini dan menimbulkan opini tersendiri bagi masyarakat. Keterlibatan perempuan dalam iklan merupakan bentuk realitas dari pemanfaatan perempuan untuk mempercepat arus konsumtif. Dalam penelitian ini citra perempuan dalam suatu iklan di televisi ditinjau dari unsur semiotika. Harapan dari penelitian ini adalah akan munculnya pemikiran kritis terhadap media, tidak saja keberadaannya melainkan substansi tayangannya yang selama ini merupakan agent of change yang memiliki peranan besar dalam menyosialisasikan nilai-nilai dalam masyarakat, sehingga di masa datang dapat berkembang pandangan yang lebih proporsional terhadap perempuan. Berdasarkan analisis yang telah dilakukan penulis, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa citra perempuan dalam iklan Pond’s Flawless White, 7 Day to Love dapat dikategorikan ke dalam tiga citra, yaitu Citra Pigura, Citra Peraduan, Citra Pergaulan. Simpulannya adalah bahwa perempuan harus selalu tampil memikat, merawat diri, namun tetap percaya diri dan bangkit menjadi perempuan cantik walaupun menghadapi masalah.Kata Kunci: Citra Perempuan, Iklan, Televisi, Semiotika
